White LEDs from TOSHIBA ELECTRONICS EUROPE
Efficient White LED Family offers High Brightness Output from Standard Compact Package
![]() | New range suits indication and backlight requirements and offers bulb alternative in certain lighting applications TOSHIBA ELECTRONICS EUROPE has announced availability of a family of efficient white LEDs that provide luminous intensity levels as high as 750mcd from a standard, compact PLCC2 package. The TLWx1100 series comprises four devices providing typical respective luminous intensities of 100mcd, 180mcd, 450mcd, and 750mcd with a typical forward current (IF) of 20mA. All of the LEDs are supplied in a standard 3.2mm x 2.8mm x 1.9mm surface mount PLCC2 package. |

TOSHIBA has employed two different technologies to produce the white light functionality. The TLWJ1100 750mcd and TLWD1100 180mcd devices use a combination of a blue InGaN LED and yellow-emitting phosphor, while the TLWA1100 and TLWH1100 combine an ultraviolet InGaN LED to excite the phosphors and provide a softer light output. Typical Cx and Cy chromaticity ratings (at IF = 20mA) are 0.32 and 0.31 for the blue LED-based devices and 0.33 and 0.32 for the UV LED-based parts. The new LEDs offer efficient operation with maximum power dissipation of just 120mW for the TLWJ1100 and TLWD1100 parts and 126mW for the TLWA1100 and TLWH1100. Typical forward voltage (VF) is 3.3V or 3.5V depending on the device chosen. All of the new Toshiba LEDs will operate at temperatures ranging from -40°C to 100°C. | |
